MOLINOS PRESENTS ITS 5TH SUSTAINABILITY REPORT, COMMITED TO “DO THINGS WELL, IMPROVING DAY BY DAY”
Buenos Aires, May 5th 2016– Molinos Río de la Plata, an Argentine leading company in the food industry, presents its 5° Sustainability Report, which summarizes its achievements reached during 2015, from its three pillars of its strategy.
The Sustainability Report of the company was carried out under the lineament of the G4 Guide of the Global Report Initiative (GRI) and counted on the opinion of an independent and external auditor, Pistrelli Henry Martin y Asociados SRL (Argentine Law). It was presented for four consecutive years together with the Financial Statements of the Company.
After discussing the results of the Report 2014 with different groups of interest, Molinos validated its three pillars strategy: Health and Welfare, People and Community Development, and Environmental Care. As a result, the company reflected on the new edition the things that its stakeholders are more interested to know about the company’s behaviour in relation to sustainability.
As regards Health and Welfare, and aiming to promote healthy life style habits, in 2015 we continued working on the nutritional profile of the products. We reduced the amount of sodium to the egg pasta Don Vicente, and we fortified the stuffed pasta “Lucchettinis” and the desserts Exquisita with vitamins and minerals. Besides, the variety of Gallo Snacks products was expanded incorporating new alternatives and flavours, for a healthy consumption between meals.
On the other hand, and in line with the long term strategy of the Company, we set an alliance with Infant Nutrition Centre of Studies (CESNI) in order to work on the evaluation of the nutritional profiles of the products.
As for People and Community Development, the main program of RSE, “Eat Tasty, Eat Healthy”, that promotes healthy eating habits, reached 88 nearby schools and plants. Molinos continue being the most important benefactor of the Food Bank Foundation, as it donates more than 960 tons in a year.
In addition, the third Social Initiatives Call was opened, where collaborators of the Company propose and get involved with social promotion projects around their influenced zones. Equally, volunteers from Molinos participated on the “Dale Program” (Right to learn, to read and Write), which was implemented in the Play Centre San Jorge of Potentialities, collaborating with children´s learning to read and write.
On the Other hand, in 2015 the 6th Climate Survey (biennial) was carried out with 95% of participation. This reflected an improvement in the values of climate, satisfaction and commitment in comparison with the results obtained in 2013.
Finally, in terms of Environmental Care, numerous initiatives were directed to reduce the environmental impact of the Company, and at the same time increasing its production. Among the most important standards of this pillar, we can mention the reduction of 13% of water consumption in the plant by ton, which led to an improvement of 15% in the index of effluent/ton. Besides, the consumption of electric grid energy was reduced by 6%, which caused a reduction in the CO2 emissions of electric energy by 6%. The RIES (Special Industrial Waste) were reduced by 36% – which is equivalent to 70 tons less – and the RINES (Non Special Industrial Waste) by 5%.
Every year, the Company renews its commitment towards Sustainability, focusing on “doing things well, improving day by day, and making long term decisions” and in this way, Molinos will become a more sustainable organization.
